Academician Juei-Low Sung

Academician Juei-Low Sung's Personal Profiles

Prof. Sung was borne on August 6, 1917, and after obtained BM from Taipei Imperial University Faculty of Medicine (Jpananese School) in December of 1941, he started to work at The Third Department of Internal Medicine of his Alma Mater (Note: in Imperial University Faculty of Medicine and in the early period of National Taiwan University College of Medicine, there were three Departments of Internal Medicine). In 1951, he received MD from Kyushu University of Japan. He majored in Internal Medicine and then subspecialized in Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

He was later appointed as Professor, Chairman of Department of Clinical Pathology, Director of “Department of Medical Technology, Chairman of Department of Internal Medicine and Director of Institute of Clinical Institute. Meantime he was appointed to be Director of Hepatitis Prevention Committee of the Cabinet-level Department of Health in1983. He was elected to be President of Gastroenterological Society of ROC, President of Taiwan Medical Association, President of Taiwan Society of Hepatology and Vice president of World Organization of Digestive Endoscopy. In 1982 he was elected to be Academician of Academia Sinica. He also served President of Sun Yat-Sen Cancer Center Hospital of Koo Foundation and Chairman of Forum of National Health Research Institute .
